Women in science: academic freedom for gender equality

On February 11, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Coalition for Academic Freedom in the Americas (CLAA) releases its public statement while also marking the launch of the campaign “Women in Science: Academic Freedom for Gender Equality,” which will run through the end of March.

The initiative denounces the structural inequalities affecting women researchers, educators, and students across the region and reaffirms that there can be no academic freedom or democracy without the full, safe, and recognized participation of women in knowledge production.

Over the coming weeks, the campaign will seek to make visible the barriers women face in science, strengthen public debate on academic freedom and gender, and promote concrete commitments to confront discrimination, ensure decent working conditions, and protect women’s intellectual autonomy.
