CLAA, HRREC, SAR, Aula Abierta, CLACSO, IPEN, ONVE and Académicxs en Riesgo are the organizations proposing the request to the IACHR.
The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has just approved the request for a regional thematic hearing on attacks on academic freedom and university autonomy in the Americas submitted by CLAA, in conjunction with the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) of the University of Ottawa, Scholars At Risk (SAR), Aula Abierta, the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), the Asociación Iniciativa Puentes por los Estudiantes de Nicaragua (IPEN), the Observatorio Nacional de Violencia contra Educadoras/es de Brasil (ONVE) and the Red Académicxs en Riesgo (Academic Network at Risk).
The hearing will be held on November 12, during the 191st Regular Session of the IACHR. Its purpose will be to present a regional analysis of attacks on academic freedom and university autonomy in the hemisphere, in order to provide the IACHR with valuable information for its oversight work and shed light on regional trends that threaten academic freedom in the hemisphere.
