The Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) is pleased to join the Coalition for Academic Freedom in the Americas (CAFA) in organizing this online event.
In recent years, academic freedom and university autonomy have been under attack in Mexico. Examples of this are the criminal procedures against former National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) officials, the interference in the management of the Centre for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE) and the President’s attacks on the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In view of the above, it is necessary to critically analyze the initiative of the General Law on Humanities, Science, Technology and Innovation. This analysis will be made under the prism of academic freedom and university autonomy.
