On April 9, 2025, a hybrid roundtable was held as part of the Gender Conference organized by the Coalition for Academic Freedom in the Americas, at the Open Society Foundations office (Rio de Janeiro), on the fight against gender violence in universities in the Americas. The event was attended by 29 people from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador, and the United States, including researchers, trade unionists, teachers, and university authorities who have been working on the issue. The participants came from different universities and institutions in the Americas, reflecting a variety of approaches to addressing gender-based violence and promoting academic freedom. The event was structured in three parts: first, a reflection on the current reality of gender violence in universities; second, a discussion of experiences and ongoing activities; and third, the formulation of action strategies and recommendations to advance the fight against gender violence in universities. The meeting sought to create a space for dialogue and exchange among participants and to foster connections and cooperative relationships.
