The Coalition for Academic Freedom in the Americas (CAFA) is pleased to announce a call for applications for the position of program officer, a part-time role (20 hours per week) with flexible location across the Americas.
As a hemispheric initiative, CAFA works to promote, protect, and advance academic freedom and university autonomy as fundamental human rights. Through research, monitoring, advocacy, and network-building, the Coalition engages with educational institutions, academics, students, civil society organizations, and international bodies to strengthen democratic principles throughout the region.
The program officer will provide strategic support across CAFA’s programmatic work, contributing to the coordination of regional initiatives, monitoring cases of academic freedom violations, supporting advocacy efforts with international and regional human rights mechanisms, and contributing to knowledge production. The role also includes supporting CAFA’s Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) system.
We are seeking a committed professional with strong experience in human rights, excellent analytical and writing skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in multicultural and multi-institutional environments. Fluency in Spanish and English is required; Portuguese is considered an asset.
Position details
- Workload: 20 hours per week (part-time)
- Compensation: USD 1,400 per month
- Format: Hybrid, flexible location within the Americas
- Contract: Fixed-term consultancy
- Travel: Occasional travel within the region may be required
