Registrations are open for our Symposium on Academic Freedom and Attacks on Education as a Public Good. This will be held at the New York University (NYU), United States, next October 25, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm ET. Virtual participation is available.
We will bring together scholars, educators, human rights advocates, union leaders, and students from the US and beyond, to discuss the critical issue of academic freedom in the United States, and to elaborate on concrete action points that can be taken forward.
About the Symposium
The Symposium will address growing challenges such as attacks on university autonomy, censorship of curricula and book banning, repressions of student voices and corporate influences over curricula and resources, which call for immediate responses and actions to defend academic freedom as a fundamental pillar of democracy and education.
We believe this will be a unique platform for sharing experiences, discussing key findings from research and normative advancements, and planning a collective way forward to strengthen the protection, respect and fulfilment of academic freedom as a right and foster potential collective action of participants attending, beyond the Symposium.
This event is co-hosted by the Coalition for Academic Freedom in the Americas, NYU and Scholars at Risk (SAR).
