CAFA requests hearing to discuss academic freedom to the IACHR

The request is signed with HRREC, SAR, Aula Abierta, CLACSO, IPEN, ONVE and Académicxs en Riesgo

The following organisations have endorsed the statement: The Coalition for Academic Freedom in the Americas (CAFA), the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) at the University of Ottawa, Scholars At Risk (SAR), Aula Abierta, the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), and Asociación Iniciativa Puentes por los Estudiantes de Nicaragua (IPEN). Brazilian National Observatory of Violence against Educators (ONVE), and the Red Académicxs en Riesgo submitted a request for a thematic hearing at the 191st Regular Session of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), to be held in Washington, D.C., In the initial stages of November.

The purpose of this request is to present a regional analysis of the attacks on academic freedom and university autonomy in the hemisphere, to provide the IACHR with valuable insights to aid in their monitoring work and to shed light on the regional trends that threaten academic freedom in the hemisphere.

The hearing request still must be accepted by the IACHR. After the response of the Commission, we will announce the next developments.
